Northeast Growing With Casino Saturation

The New York Times reported on December 17&18, 2014 the following "One of Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s signature initiatives, the expansion of gambling in New York, took a major step forward on Wednesday, when a state board recommended the approval of Las Vegas-style resort casinos in the Catskills, near Albany and on the northern end of the Finger Lakes." ... "But New York is entering an intensively competitive gambling industry in the Northeast with lagging returns that some analysts believe is close to saturated. The Gaming Facility Location Board seemed to take that into account by declining to recommend a fourth resort, as allowed by law, in part to give the other three a better chance of success."

The Saturation is growing as reported on WWLP 22 News in Springfield on December 17, 2014 "MGM Springfield is on track to break ground for a resort casino next spring, but by the time MGM opens its doors in Springfield’s south end, there could be a lot more regional competition. On Wednesday, New York’s Gaming Facility Board recommended the state license three casinos.

Closest to Mass. is the Rivers Casino and Resort at Mohawk Harbor in Schenectady, just west of Albany. It’s a $300 million project with more than 1,100 slot machines. Schenectady, New York is about 100 miles west of Springfield. So MGM Springfield will have the Rivers Casino and Resort there, and 100 miles to its east, there will be Wynn Resorts in Everett."

Life In Springfield

The survey results released for "2014’s Best and Worst College Cities & Towns in America” shows that Springfield Massachusetts ranked poorly for its crime rate, low number of students per capita, and low number of nightlife options.   These are some of the things MGM already knew.    With so few nightlife options in Springfield, MGM knows it has a solid customer base.

Already "Project Furious" & "The Executive Solutions" has started to create options for people such as the December 20th (2014) film festival called "Christmas In Springfield" to give people an option to do something.   Previous work has been done on several occasions with the Bing Arts Center.

The recent recent work of the Resurrection Center in Springfield has put forth Christian Values in weekend and night entertainment.   Already the Resurrection Center has become a powerhouse on Wednesday nights for Youth enrichment development.   Also Wednesday nights, the Resurrection Center works to help resolve life's general problems with classes that also put forth Christian Values into every day life.   Both Wednesday night activities are family driven and located at 1597 Allen Street in Springfield, MA

The event on December 20th is approved by FCC regulations and supports the communication goals of EPN News in New York.     We can start next year successfully, by ending this year successfully.   "Christmas in Springfield" is 12:00 Noon on Saturday, December 20th at the Resurrection Center located at 1597 Allen Street in Springfield.

Warning About The Future

[Project Furious, November 6, 2014] Casino gaming is legal in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and by a 20% margin desired by the majority of voters in the state.  This doesn't mean that gambling addiction doesn't exist.   It also doesn't mean that the issues that surround casinos closing around the country doesn't exist.   The business model of casinos is similar to the tobacco industry.   It is fueled by addiction.    Gambling is an addiction that is similar to drugs, alcohol, and sex.   Addiction leads to abuse, violence, and broken families.  But the people of Massachusetts have voted.   Many communities previously made it clear they did not want a casino on their soil, such as Palmer, Holyoke, and West Springfield.   The November vote in these communities was different after MGM was given license in the city of Springfield.    The Governor of Massachusetts also made it clear he did not want a Casino in his home of Richmond, MA, but was in full support of the Casino.    The Mayor of Springfield does live in Springfield and supported the Casino.   Who knows, he may have a job at MGM in Springfield one day in a senior position.  It will be a curious thing to watch after the MGM Casino anticipated opening in the Summer of 2017.

The expected consequence of the vote supporting Casinos in Massachusetts is as follows.   Large construction crews from out-of-state will employ out-of-state jobs to build the large MGM infrastructure in Springfield.   Western, Massachusetts as a whole is not equipped to build or take on such a large project.    A very large $800 million project tends not to finish on time and tends to go over budget.   A good example of that is the Big Dig.   It would not be a total surprise if taxes were somehow incorporated to help finish the over budgeted MGM project in Springfield.     It would also not be a surprise that the anticipated opening in the summer of 2017 is delayed by almost a year.   Perhaps the Spring of 2018 is likely.   During that time, there could be news reports of budget overruns and an added responsibility to the tax payers.    It will be then that those who voted in favor of the casino (vote NO on #3) will have second thoughts of their choice, but by then it will be too late.

The Communities of Palmer, Holyoke, and West Springfield  first voice opposition to Casinos when it affected their soil and then later voted by wide margin in approval at the November 4th vote.   Imagine what will happen to Springfield after MGM opens.    Imagine how the families, schools, and small businesses will be effected.  Imagine the traffic on Springfield roadways.    What will happen to Springfield is what Palmer, Holyoke, and West Springfield successfully avoided.    What is curious is that voters of Springfield twice approved the Casino.  Perhaps they did not hear the earlier voices of  Palmer, Holyoke, and West Springfield.

Within seven years after MGM opens, the devastation will likely set set in. That is anticipated be around the year 2024 at the latest (given the opening during Summer 2017).  If the casinos in New York are voted in (not approved yet), the traffic of eager gamblers will be able to take I-90 to Springfield making a connection to addicted travelers.   Will the New York casinos around I-90 and the Hudson Valley region stay open forever?  Not likely, but that will create new interested customers in the MGM in Springfield, Massachusetts.   When thinking long term, the I-90 and I-91  intersection provides a gateway into a greater populated area.    Springfield will eventually be a pool of casino gamblers who will merge together.   When their money runs out, the effects of white collar crime, theft, embezzlement, and other financially effected crimes will go up.    When casinos first opened in Connecticut, embezzlement tripled (See "Armageddon by Casino, by David Ewen).  Imagine those who may be at risk of suicide because of the severity of debt impacting families.  When families run out of money desperation kicks in.  This results in broken families, crime, abuse, and even death.

In the book, "Armageddon by Casino" and "Apocalypse by Casino"  (David Ewen) there was a thorough discussion of how crime would result from a Casino in Springfield, Massachusetts.   Already, before formal soil testing of the ground was complete, the first issue has been raised. WWLP 22 News reported that the former owner of the Paramount Theater in Springfield has filed a racketeering lawsuit against Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno, New England Farm Council Workers President Herbie Flores, the Springfield Republican and others.  Steven Stein, who owned the Paramount Theater and Skyplex in Springfield, claims the defendants worked together to force Stein to sell the Paramount Theater to the New England Farm Workers Council with the ultimate goal of using the entertainment venue to partner with or sell to  a potential casino developer.   Now imagine what has really been going behind the scenes with MGM coming to Springfield.  I wonder what else we haven't been told.  Project Furious has the slogan "Don't make me say I told you so".   Well,  I hate to say it, but "I told you so".  (Book: Armageddon by Casino / DVD: Apocalypse by Casino - David Ewen)

In preparation for the effects of gambling addiction in Springfield, Massachusetts, a plan already in development will be announced.  It is called "The Rock", which will be a foundation of support for communities effected by broken families, abuse, and addiction.  The Rock will be operational long before the casino open in the summer of 2017.  The Rock is a consortium of business and community leaders helping those steer away from the addictive and destructive nature of casinos.  It also will work as a corporation to help families get connected and protect our communities from crime and violence.  The dance isn't over.  We were just warming up and now getting started.  Remember God is in control and has a plan through his promise.

To all who supported Yes on #3, Project Furious, and other supporting efforts. Thank you.  Remember that God is always in control and has a plan.   We have an opportunity to help the people of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Springfield Neighbors Flip Flop

(November 5, 2014) Before the November 4th vote, West Springfield and Palmer voted to not have a casino in their back yard.  Mohegan Sun had set up an office in downtown Palmer and a big sign was visible by driver's getting off the Mass Pike at exit 8.  Holyoke had controversy with their Mayor, who initially expressed interest in a Holyoke Casino, and eventually chose not to entertain the idea of having a casino in their city.  The people of Holyoke and supporters of the Mayor made it clear they did not want a casino.  Two years ago, Springfield voted to let MGM build a casino.   A licensed was issued to MGM for Springfield.

Last Summer, the Massachusetts State Supreme Court agreed that the casino issue should be a state-wide vote.   Question # 3 was added to the November 4th ballot.  A "yes" vote meant a "no" to casinos.

Before the November 4th vote, West Springfield voted not to have the Hard Rock Cafe or any casino in their neighborhood. The Hard Rock Cafe  casino plan for West Springfield was defeated 55-45 percent.  Tim Maland, president of the proposed Hard Rock Hotel & Casino New England, said the people of West Springfield didn't want a casino — regardless of who might operate it.  Of course the vote was different on November 4th.   They didn't seem to care if the casino is on the other side of the river.

In Holyoke, Mayor Alex Morse initially desired to have a casino until his supporters showed frustration and disappointment.  Holyoke didn't want a casino.  On November 4th, they didn't seem to show that frustration and disappointment.

In Palmer, the town that fought hard to not have a casino had voted out Mohegan Sun.  At one time, Mohegan Sun had an office in downtown Palmer.     However on November 4th, their "YES" vote was 40, leaving 60% approving a casino.   They kicked out Mogehan Sun from their town, but didn't seem to mind MGM in Springfield.

In Springfield, the city only supported 36% to not have a casino while 66% were in favor of having the casino.   This isn't too far different from the vote two years ago.

As I have toured Massachusetts with the fuel of Project Furious, I had observed that if people didn't live in an area of a casino then they strongly wanted it.  An example is the Governor of Massachusetts, Deval Patrick  would vote against a casino if one were proposed in Richmond, the western Massachusetts town where he owns a home.  (MassLive Nov. 13, 2014)

Here’s how all of the eight surrounding communities voted on ballot question #3, where a “No” vote kept the casino gambling law in place, and allows casinos in the state:
  • Chicopee:                No votes= 10,285 Yes votes= 5,498
  • Agawam:                 No votes= 6,163 Yes votes= 4,046
  • Ludlow:                   No votes= 4,364 Yes votes= 2,175
  • East Longmeadow:  No votes= 3,382 Yes votes= 2,784
  • Holyoke:                 No votes= 6,103 Yes votes= 3,917
  • Wilbraham:             No votes= 3,688 Yes votes= 2,343
  • West Springfield:     No votes= 4,458 Yes votes= 3,931
  • Longmeadow:          No votes= 3,307 Yes votes= 3,968

The Rock

To all who supported Yes on #3, Project Furious, and other supporting efforts. Thank you.  Remember that God is always in control and has a plan. Alerts & Breaking News For Casino Vote

This blog post has an alerts and two breaking news stories.   Please read and share.

Before going to the alerts and breaking news stories, I want to share my deepest heartfelt thanks to all who have supported  Project Furious 2014 as an awareness campaign and the slogan "Don't Make Me Say, I Told You So".  I've been on the road and beaten path from Boston to the Berkshires talking about the casino risk.   Literally thousands have acknowledged and been educated through the book, movie, album, posts on the blog, Facebook page, email, and texts.   This measured amount is verified through positive response. A little over 3000 have been given the word of encouragement and faith that Springfield is an awesome city and does not deserve the destructive forces of MGM.  The same goes true for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  What ever is placed on the land is next to families, children, schools, and our future.   A casino does not give light to a long term future.   The people surrounding Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun can tell you that.   Prior to the opening of Foxwoods in 2002 and later Mohegan Sun, the Governor of Connecticut knew of the destructive forces of casinos in a community.  He was proven right after the people of Connecticut voted to have two casinos 11 miles apart allowed to sit on the land.    His concerns have reached Massachusetts and the issues hold here too.   On June 24th Project Furious 2014 was launched as a behind the scenes awareness campaign to warn as many people possible of the risks and damaging effects of casino.   A free open dinner for the public was held at Red Rose on August 7th with invitations going to the Mayor and Governor.    A widely accepted book and movie was released - although basic - it served well as a sharing platform and was effective in reaching over 3000.   Of all campaigns against the casino, Project Furious is the only one that did not gamble money in the fight.  The fight was done through education and awareness instead of money.   As we exit this campaign and begin "The Rock" starting after the November 3rd vote, I once again give my greatest appreciation to the citizens of Massachusetts who took an honest effort to truly reach out to the general public.   Thank you.   And now the news ...

ALERT - It is being reported that the Vote Yes on # 3 (stop casino) signs have been stolen of people's properties.    This was reported by the Repeal The Casino Deal who provided the signs through donations.   Fewer signs than original planned were distributed and those that were have been found to be stolen.   These are two reasons why most signs that are visible say Vote No on # 3 (keep casino).

BREAKING NEWS - WWLP 22 News reported that the former owner of the Paramount Theater in Springfield has filed a racketeering lawsuit against Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno, New England Farm Council Workers President Herbie Flores, the Springfield Republican and others. I wonder what else we haven't been told.   http://wwlp.com/2014/10/30/racketeering-lawsuit-filed-against-mayor-sarno-flores-others/

This same report was also reported on Masslive.com on Friday afternoon (Oct 31) - http://www.masslive.com/news/index.ssf/2014/10/former_owners_of_paramount_the.html#incart_river

BREAKING NEWS - Also WNE Poll shows strong support for state's casino law, even among Catholics, despite clergy urging vote for repeal.   A new survey from the Western New England University Polling Institute released Friday shows 59 percent of likely voters say they will vote "no" on the ballot question to maintain the current casino law, compared to just 35 percent who say they will vote "yes" to repeal it. The gap has grown to include more support for the 2011 Expanded Gaming Act since a September poll, when 52 percent of voters opposed a repeal of the law and 41 percent said they supported a repeal. http://www.masslive.com/politics/index.ssf/2014/10/wne_poll_shows_strong_support.html#incart_river

Casinos Are Winning. We Need to Fight.

WWLP 22 News reported today that Massachusetts voters are leaning toward keeping the Casinos in Massachusetts according to poll released today (October 1) that 52% of voters will vote NO on Question # 3 to Keep Casinos.   41% plan to vote against casinos by voting Yes on Question #3.  The remaining respondents to the poll are undecided.     Today, WWLP 22 News called me to discuss off air Project Furious 2014 and the vote for question # 3.    Many people are have the misunderstanding that voters will not allow casinos to stay in Massachusetts, but the polls say differently.    There are enough voters who won't live near a casino and won't be impacted.   They don't know what the long term effects are for the entire state.    http://wwlp.com/2014/10/01/poll-casino-repeal-effort-behind-statewide-but-not-in-wmass/

On September 18 it was reported that the Massachusetts unemployment rate jumped from 5.6% up to 5.8% as of July 2014.   At a time when unemployment has ticked up, do we really want the voting residents of Massachusetts to spend wasteful dollars on Casinos at a time when casinos are closing all over the country?   In Connecticut, the Mayor of Ledyard (home of Foxwoods) said that there has been "no economic development spin-off from (Foxwoods).  Businesses do not come here".    Connecticut has proven that casinos doesn't spurt the growth of commerce in their communities.   Even worse, Moody's has downgraded the outlook on casinos down to negative and Firth Ratings have said the casino market is "reaching a saturation point".    The Governor of Massachusetts (Gov. Deval Patrick), Speaker DeLeo, and Senate President Murray have expressed that they do not want a casino in their home towns.   Why should we?    The former CEO of American Gaming said he would "work very, very hard against" a casino in his home town.

On November 4, vote YES on Question # 3 which would prohibit casinos, any gaming establishment with slot machines, and wagering on simulcast greyhound races.   When we say NO to Casinos, we say YES to Question 3.   Vote on November 4th.  God bless you and the people of Massachusetts.   Learn more by clicking the links below.   Our old slogan was "Share if you care".  Our new slogan is "Don't make me say I told you so".   See below and please share.

Casino question at the gubernatorial debate

Monday night’s Springfield debate opened with the casino issue.

Two candidates for Governor  are for the repeal.

Jeff McCormick said, “I am yes to repeal the casino as well. A third of revenue’s coming from addicted gamblers.”

Scott Lively said, “We should be turning to the Lord, not to the organized crime of the casino industry.”
Ultimately the voters will decide the fate of casinos in Massachusetts on Election Day, November 4th.

Three candidates want to keep the casino.

Republican Charlie Baker said, “I’ve been a one casino person since pretty much the start of this conversation.”

Independent Evan Falchuk said, “Our Legislature created the framework. Cities and towns then went and had hard fought battles.”

Democrat Martha Coakley said, “In making sure that we’re going to maximize the economic benefit of casinos and mitigate the ills.”

Ballot Question # 3

A YES vote means that you agree that the Casino Law should be repealed and that Casino gaming be outlawed.

A NO vote means that no change will happen and casinos are allowed to come into our cities and towns.

Project Furious 2014 is against casino gaming in our state.

What Is Project Furios 2014 and What is Happening?

Project Furious 2014 was first announced in New York at the EPN digital broadcast center to educate Massachusetts voters of the opportunity to reverse the 2011 Expanded Gaming Act that was voted in on July 16, 2012.

On June 24, 2012, the Massachusetts State Supreme Court authorized ballet question number three to be part of the November 4th elections.     Project Furious 2014 was launched as the only awareness campaign in Massachusetts that does not receive donations and has no debt.    The organization presented by a consortium of volunteer organizations and individuals associated with:

- Ewen Prime Company originating from Boston, Natick & Westborough,
- Forest Academy of New York & New England,
- Kelvin Projects from the Berkshires & Springfield

All awareness information about the damaging effects of casino gambling and voting YES on Question # 3 on November 4th to reverse the 2011 Expanded Casino Act that authorizes casino gaming is FREE and found on the blog http://projectfurious2014.blogspot.com/

In addition to the FREE information, published on Amazon is the book and the DVD movie produced by Project Furious 2014 and Ewen Prime Company.

- BOOK (on Amazon):    Armageddon by Casino
- MOVIE (DVD on Amazon): Apocalypse by Casino

The volunteers have been gathered through social media efforts on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, and Google Plus who work to share information about the damaging effects of casino gambling.      The greatest support has been from Boston and Worcester.   Support is beginning to come from Springfield and surrounding communities.

Even worse, Moody's hs downgraded the outlook on casinos down to negative and Firth Ratings have said the casino market is "reaching a saturation point".    The Governor of Massachusetts (Gov. Money Problems

BOSTON (State House News Service) – The group attempting to repeal the state’s casino law owes consultants, lawyers and supporters about $440,000 and has less than $11,000 in cash.

This is why project furious 2014 is an awareness campaign and not a fund raiser.   You can't go against MGM in Springfield or any other casino and think you can fight money with money.   It doesn't cost anything to educate people about the dangers affecting homes and businesses that casinos cause.

Don't Make Me Say I Told You So. Question 3 for November 4. Know the Truth

Casino Talk Getting Busy

Thank you to all who attended August celebration dinner at Red Roze Pizza (Aug 7 @ 7PM).  We had a great time and a good gathering of proactive supporters.  It was really good to see.   The casino talk is just starting to emerge as a routine news topic as we are two months away from the vote.  They'll be throttled up certainly by early October as the debate gets more heated with a month before the vote.   Our information continues to spread with multiple articles, books, albums, DVDs  which most are being given away.    There is no "pay here" or "donate here".  It doesn't cost anything to be informed and make the right decision.  It is as easy as reading and sharing with others: http://projectfurious2014.blogspot.com/

We now move forward with our team of all volunteers for this awareness campaign.  (Not be confused with a fundraiser).    Our goal is to open the door of information to registered Massachusetts voters to the information that show the damaging effects of casino gaming in the state.   We have the opportunity to vote casinos away from Massachusetts in November.
By early October, this will finally be a true hot topic in the public's eye as summer vacations will be over, kids are back in school, and the vote is about a month away.  You'll start to see more frequent news activity as MGM and Repeal the Casino Deal put more dollars into battle.  Our efforts will focus on communication by way of podcasts, videos, social media, texting, emailing, and face-2-face.  We are poised to do more and multiply our efforts.

It is fortunate that other organizations with fundraising efforts are doing the good work with strong rally efforts, planted lawn signs, aggressive mailings, and paid advertising.     While that effort continues, our non-fundraising team will continue to focus on connecting with people that on one knows exist.    Those are the silent registered voters who aren't sure if they want to vote.   Our educational efforts continue to build help build that confidence.
An impact has been made already with the volume of people we have reached.   Our job is to open the door to the truth so that an accurate educated decision can be made by the voter before going to the pole.    As my book explains, even the former Governor of Connecticut was apposed to casinos back before Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun became a reality.
Our slogan use to be "Share if You Care".   Now it is, "Don't Make Me Say I Told You So".

Unemployment Future in Massachusetts?

Can casinos in Massachusetts cause mass unemployment?   The business model of casinos doesn't work.    The northeast region is already saturated with two casinos in Connecticut with dwindling revenue.  Here is a report of a disaster for Atlantic City that was posted on September 3, 2014.    Read and understand the potential devastation Massachusetts can have with casinos failing in our state.

Bad News for Massachuetts

Massachusetts just received bad news. See link below.    Well over half the voters accept casinos in Massachusetts and want MGM to stay in Springfield.    I believe they are unaware of the dangers of casino gaming in Massachusetts.     A new UMass Lowell/7News poll released this week shows that 59 percent of likely general election voters still support the law, with 36 percent saying they support the repeal effort. Just five percent of the voters said they are still undecided.

Destruction by Casino to Massachusetts

This is an example (click link) of how a casino can destroy Massachusetts.   If it's old news, then it's fact.   Don't let this be our future.   And don't make me say I told you so (Vote "Yes" on # 3 on Nov 4 to repeal the casino law)

Poll shows Mass. voters still support casinos as reported on June 19, 2014 in the Boston Globe.  Staff writer David Scharfenberg reports.

Massachusetts voters still support Las Vegas-style gaming in the state, even as they’ve soured on the commission charged with selecting casino operators, according to a new Boston Globe poll.

Fifty-two percent of respondents say they would vote to keep the state’s casino law in place if the question lands on the ballot this fall, while just 41 percent would repeal it.

Boston Globe Reports Unity in Fight Against Casino

http://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2014/08/23/christian-right-and-political-left-unite-opposing-casino-gambling-mass/S7EDfsD4SToJjQQFqAsTlN/story.html

As reported from the Boston Globe:

Politics famously makes strange bedfellows, but this odd coupling is as strange as it gets: On the issue of casino gambling, the liberal left and the Christian right share common ground, united in hoping to keep the gambling industry out of Massachusetts.
“For all the polarization that goes on in Massachusetts, this is a momentous opportunity for us to come together on a common cause,” said Kris Mineau, president emeritus of the Massachusetts Family Institute, which is associated with Focus on the Family, the socially conservative organization founded by evangelical Christian author James Dobson.
Casino gambling, Mineau said, is “a regressive tax on the poor,” attracting gamblers who cannot afford to lose what money they have. The Massachusetts Family Institute “will be working to get out the vote in November,” in favor of repeal, he said.
It is a rare case in which Mineau sounds a lot like Ben Wright, director of Progressive Massachusetts, a left-leaning statewide grass-roots organization.
“A progressive economy does not put in big businesses that suck money out of the small businesses,” said Wright. “We’re obviously very supportive of the repeal.”
Casino gambling ‘cuts across all the traditional divisions. . . . It crosses the political and ideological spectrum.’
Political scientist Clyde Barrow

Polling in Massachusetts has long found that people who identify themselves as “very liberal” or “very conservative” are a significant part of the political base of the anticasino movement, said casino specialist Clyde Barrow, chairman of the political science department at the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley, and formerly of the University of Massachusetts system.
Casino gambling, considered both as an economic and a social issue, “cuts across all the traditional divisions,” said Barrow. “It’s not a Republican or Democrat issue or a liberal-conservative issue. It crosses the political and ideological spectrum.”
John Ribeiro, chairman of the statewide campaign to repeal the casino law, said his group has received donations from liberals and religious conservatives, though he has not yet noticed coordination between the political opposites.
Question 3 would ban casinos from Massachusetts, reversing a law approved by state lawmakers three years ago that authorized up to three resort-style casinos, one each in three regions of the state, and one slot machine parlor.
The state gambling commission awarded the slot parlor license to a Penn National Gaming project in Plainville and has promised the Western Massachusetts resort license to MGM Resorts, which has proposed a casino in Springfield. The commission plans to grant the Greater Boston license next month, while the Southeastern Massachusetts license is on a later timetable.
Penn and MGM spent millions fighting each other in Springfield, and tens of millions against each other in a referendum battle in Maryland two years ago. But, for now, the rivals are in unlikely alliance, as members of a political coalition defending the 2011 casino law. The coalition includes other entities that are not natural political allies, such as business-backed chambers of commerce and labor unions, “all coming together to support gaming because of the real jobs and real benefits that come with it,” said Justine Griffin, a spokeswoman for the coalition defending the casino law.
A Boston Globe poll this week found that 50 percent of likely voters support keeping the casino law, while 41 percent want to repeal it. The figures have been consistent across the past several weekly polls.
The repeal campaign is quietly underway, with both sides focusing at the moment on building networks of supporters for street-level campaigning and get-out-the-vote activities.
Casino opponents, who expect to be widely outspent by the gambling companies in the campaign, will lean heavily this fall on the influence of clergy who oppose casinos, said Ribeiro.
Religious leaders played a prominent role in several municipal referendums on casinos last year and were especially active in East Boston, where opponents defeated a $1 billion casino proposal.
“They are a natural ally of ours,” Ribeiro said. “We are looking for them to help activate their members for the fight.”
Bishop Douglas John Fisher, leader of the Episcopal Diocese of Western Massachusetts and a strong supporter of casino repeal, said he will encourage clergy in the diocese’s 65 parishes to speak about the casino repeal from the pulpit and to host community forums on the issue.
Fisher’s crisp political message is an economic argument against casinos, cast in the language of faith: “Jesus comes to bring good news to the poor. Casinos are bad for the poor. We follow Jesus.”
The anticasino campaign can expect some more help in the next two to three weeks, when the state’s top Roman Catholic leaders, including Cardinal Sean P. O’Malley, are expected to weigh in on the repeal campaign through the Massachusetts Catholic Conference, the church’s public policy office. James F. Driscoll, director of the conference, said in an e-mail that he expects the state’s bishops will endorse the repeal.
The Rev. Richard McGowan, a Boston College casino specialist, said gambling itself is not a sin under Catholic teaching, though the state’s bishops have historically opposed casinos which they believe would hurt the poor.

Slump Batters Foxwoods Resort Casino

MASHANTUCKET, Conn. (AP) — The tribe that owns the country’s largest resort casino is showing new signs of strain under the weight of its billion-dollar debt, saying it has had to review its options with senior lenders as a slump batters the Foxwoods Resort Casino.

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation has reportedly been selling off land near its reservation in southeastern Connecticut. And in a report this week, credit rating agency Standard & Poor’s lowered its rating for the tribe and said the chances of a debt default appear to be growing.

The tribe has entered discussions with senior lenders over what it calls “failure to comply with certain financial covenants.”

The tribe says the underlying business remains strong at Foxwoods and the recent struggles don’t affect the casino’s projected liquidity.

NEXT STEP: The Casino War

Thank you to all who attended Thursday night's celebration dinner at Red Roze Pizza (Aug 7 @ 7PM).  We had a great time and a good gathering of proactive supporters.  It was really good to see.

We've just met a few thousand already and we are poised to multiply our efforts.

It is fortunate that other fundraising efforts are doing the good work with rally efforts, planted lawn signs, aggressive mailings, and paid advertising.     While that effort continues, our non-fundraising team will focus on connecting with people that on one knows exist.    Those are the silent registered voters who aren't sure if they want to vote.   Our educational efforts will help build that confidence.
An impact has been made already with just over a couple thousand.   Our job is to open the door to the truth so that an accurate educated decision can be made by the voter before going to the pole.

NEWS for TONIGHT: Presentation by Project Furious at Red Rose Pizza in Springfield

On pages 14 and 15, the book “Armageddon by Casino” had announced a meeting at Red Rose Pizza in Springfield on August 7 at 7:00 PM.      Today is August 7th, so in the spirit of commitment demonstrating organization, structure, and forward thinking, here we are on this bright sunny day getting ready to enjoy pizza this evening.

Prior to the Summer of 2012, the organization Citizens Against Casino Gambling created a fundraising effort to educate Springfield Residents of the dangers of Casino Gambling.    In July of 2012, Springfield, Massachusetts voted to allow the 2011 Expanded Gaming Act into law by a slight margin which paved the path to allow MGM to be granted a license in Massachusetts.    In response and several days after that vote, appeals paperwork was brought up to the State Supreme Court.  Those that brought the required signatures the state Supreme Court were politicians, lawyers, and high level business leaders who helped form a company called “Repeal The Casino Deal”   On June 24, 2014, the court announced that a statewide vote for the repeal the 2011 Expanded Gaming Act would be a ballot question in the November 4th 2014 election.

On this same day of the Massachusetts state Supreme Court announcement, and while the sun was still high in the sky, Project Furious 2014, an awareness campaign was launched.    A second chance to beat the casino in Massachusetts was given.   Another opportunity to make sure things are done right this time was given.   This time it wouldn’t be lost.   The fight would begin.     On July 24, 2014, Project Furious announced “The proverbial shot across the legislative bow of Massachusetts has been fired in celebration of the November Casino vote on November 4th.  The media has already received the battle cry from Project Furious.

The sun was still high in the sky on June 24th when the blog and Facebook page for Project Furious 2014 was created and announced to the media.     A promise for delivery in August for a book, movie, and audio album was made.    Along with three radio show and multiple blog entries, the book, lecture documentary, and digital audio album were released in July 28 days ahead of schedule.   The book is called “Armageddon by Casino” is on Amazon.com.    The lecture documentary on YouTube.com is “Apocalypse by Casino” and the album “Mass(achusetts) Extinction by Casino” is on YourListen.com
On pages 14 and 15, of the book “Armageddon by Casino” it reports of its own book release party on Thursday, August 7th 2014 at 7:00 PM at Red Rose Pizza in Springfield.    It’s unusual that the coordination and timing of a book can be produced and released and accurately report on a future event.    That shows the structured organization and commitment of Project Furious 2014.      By way of Twitter and Email, Governor of Massachusetts, the Mayor of Springfield, and local media have all been invited to be part of the public announcement dinner at Red Rose Pizza in Springfield August 7th.      Prior to August 7th, one of the leaders of “Repeal the Casino Deal” have also been invited by phone through a positive cooperative phone discussion.

Project Furious 2014 is not a fundraising effort.   Some people may believe they gambled their money and lost when donating to “Citizens Against Casino Gambling” following the vote on July 16, 2012.   To create a partnership Project Furious called, emailed, and sent a letter by post office with no response.  Their website is still active with a Donate button linked to payment to the Episcopal Diocese of Western Massachusetts through PayPal.    They accept money, but will not be open to discussion directly when reached through different avenues.

An email and phone call to “Repeal the Casino Deal” were both returned.    A good telephone conversation with a Western Massachusetts leader from the organization demonstrated agreement on all casino related issues.   The conversation had the energy of professionalism, cooperation, agreement, and unity.    Project Furious 2014 has committed to attending their late August conference with business leaders to be held in Western Massachusetts.    A lawn sign has also been ordered from the organization.    Due to a scheduling conflict, they are unable to be represented at the event on August 7th at Red Rose Pizza, however applaud in the agreement and cooperation of both organizations.

MGM has purchased two buildings in Springfield and is poised to pour a significant amount of money into advertising campaigns.      As with many political campaigns, fighting power is shown in the number of dollars.    If the battle is to be fought with money as the ammunition, then a lot of money would be needed to fight someone with a lot of it.   MGM has demonstrated confidence by purchasing two buildings as a show of commitment.   Their intentions is to stay in Springfield and they have already shown it with money.
A radical approach to succeed in this political battle is to fight in a corridor of influence that does not use money.      This corridor of influence is one that would not have been thought of by MGM because it does not use money as a platform for persuasion.    Granted lawn signs, mailed letters, and advertising costs money, but that is along a corridor of influence that MGM knows and expects.      The fight needs to also happen in an arena that they wouldn’t expect and don’t understand.    The avenue is through people they don’t know exist.    The voters who are silent in their opinion and restrict their traceable donating dollars are out there.     One of the ways they can be found is by reaching out to their mobile devices in their hand through social media, email, and text messaging.  Digital products like books, albums, and movies are also reached out to them.     The book “Armageddon by Casino” was FREE on Amazon over a five day period and now being released in two versions including a 99 cent ebook.  The book is also in paperback.     The movie and album are FREE on YouTube.com and YourListen.com respectively.    People don’t need to pay anything to understand what they need to know prior to the November 4th vote.

Project Furious 2014 is solely an awareness campaign and not huge dollar basket building fundraiser.    The tactic of the organization is to build awareness by way of email blasts, blog posts, published book, lecture documentary movies, audio albums, text messaging, and social media.   The social media platforms are Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, and LinkedIn.    Having reached the small number of a few thousand, it is a good start prior to the political war that is poised to start in the late autumn prior to the November 4th election.   A greater campaign is just on the horizon.

As part of the awareness campaign a slogan was presented as saying “Share if You Care”.   Now the summer season getting closer to the end and the battle in the fall is about to begin.    The slogan has been replaced with “Don’t Make Me Say I Told You So”.      The facts about the dangers of casino gambling is being sprayed all over the region by Project Furious 2014.    With the right support, the awareness effort can beat the financial armory of MGM with their anticipated advertising campaign.

Project Furious 2014 is underway with a reach that has already met thousands as of August 7th.    It’s a small number to start with compared to the assault that is planned for the near future.    The few thousand is based on the processing power of one person.  Now imagine if there was more than one person who have the same tenacious energy to ensure we as a community don’t make the same mistake as we did in June 16, 2012.     Voters need to get out in full numbers and not be reliant on someone else to do the voting for them.   This reliance is what bit us in 2012.     This mistake can’t happen again.   Remember, the new slogan for Project Furious 2014 is “Don’t Make Me Say I Told You So”.
The most effective help people can give is to share the blog and encourage to vote on November 4th.  http://projectfurious2014.blogspot.com/     Use any effective means through texting, email, and social media.   One person so far is a good start.   The next step is more volunteers who care about their community who will help with this effort.  All the resources have been provided and a lot more is to come.    Remember the slogan, “Don’t Make Me Say I Told You So”.

THE VOTE:

On November 4th, ballot question # 3 will have to options.  YES and NO.

·         A YES VOTE would prohibit casinos, any gaming establishment with slot machines, and wagering on simulcast greyhound races.

·         A NO VOTE would make no change in the current laws regarding gaming.

So this means that a YES vote means NO Casino.  Remember that.  Voting YES means No to casinos in Massachusetts.
